How to protect your email address online.

You cannot control every database your information enters, but you can reduce how often the same email address is exposed and make unwanted use easier to contain.

Use different addresses for different purposes

Separating shopping, subscriptions, account registrations, and other services makes it harder for one exposed address to affect every part of your inbox.

Think before using your primary address

Reserve your primary address for relationships where continuity matters. For routine sign-ups, an alias can reduce how widely that primary address circulates.

Disable addresses that become a problem

If an address begins receiving unwanted messages or is no longer needed, being able to disable that specific address is much less disruptive than abandoning the inbox you have used for years.
