What is an email alias—and why use one?

An email alias is an alternate email address that can receive messages without requiring you to give every website the same primary address.

Using the same email address across shopping sites, subscriptions, apps, newsletters, and account registrations makes that address a reusable identifier. If a company shares data, suffers a breach, or simply sends more email than you expected, the same address remains connected to you.
